This week when listening to one of my favorite psychic internet radio shows, Phyllis King (Phyllis, when you read this ~ we love you!) she said something that really resonated with me. She read an email question on air and it related to an individual who talked about a particularly negative co-worker who was constantly spewing bad vibes. Phyllis’s response was profound and one I will never forget. She said, “Why are you allowing someone else to determine how you feel inside?” I thought to myself: that is so TRUE! I had just had a jolting negative experience with an individual the previous weekend and that episode was still repeating over and over again in my mind to the point of obsession. Why do we care what and how other people feel about us? I came up with two reasons why this happens. Number one: we are programmed at a very young age to be people pleasers and not to rock the boat. Number two: our ego would like us to believe that we are perfect, without flaw and therefore everyone else should share that view. When that does not happen we get offended and upset. As I contemplate this question, I pick up this month’s free Wayne Dyer book from Hay House, “The Shift,” and it says this: “When you begin have feelings of being offended or upset, take notice of where they occur in your body. Then turn your attention away from that situation and focus on acceptance and love.” I love Divine synchronicity! Leave it to Wayne Dyer to teach us how to deal with our ego!
